Effective Patient Interviews - Spoken Language
Excellence In Medical Interpreting (1.5 CE)
Adapted for Spoken Language Interpreters
Often a healthcare provider’s most useful diagnostic tool is the patient interview. Ineffective interviews can often lead to unnecessary testing and misdiagnoses. In this session, participants will explore not only the medical terminology used, but also the intent behind a provider’s line of questioning in an acute care setting. Participants will be exposed to native language use and given opportunity to practice interpreting medical vocabulary. Through integrating intent with hands on language practice, interpreters will gain confidence in interpreting both routine and complex provider/patient interactions.
